Anna Hall, the reigning U.S. and NCAA Division 1 champion in the women's heptathlon and a Bowerman Award finalist who ranks second in the world this year with 6,458 points, joins DyeStat editor Erik Boal to discuss competing July 17-18 at the World Athletics Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. Hall, who ranks No. 11 all-time in the U.S., is scheduled to compete along with fellow Americans Kendell Williams, Michelle Atherley and Ashtin Zamzow-Mahler. She revisits an outdoor schedule that included heptathlon performances in March at the 94th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, followed by the USATF Combined Events Championships in May in Arkansas, along with the Division 1 final June 10-11 at Hayward Field. Hall explains the benefits of not only having more than a month to prepare for this heptathlon, in addition to the opportunities to compete in the 100-meter hurdles and long jump June 23-24 at the USATF Championships at Hayward Field. She reflects on not being able to complete the U.S. Olympic Trials last year after suffering a navicular bone injury and how proud she is to have not only recovered from surgery, but rebounding to win the NCAA indoor pentathlon championship in March, along with the U.S. and Division 1 heptathlon crowns, and contributing to Florida sweeping both indoor and outdoor team titles. Hall reminisces about representing the U.S. in 2018 at the World Under-20 Championships in Finland, along with winning gold at the Pan American U-20 Championships in 2019 in Costa Rica. She expresses gratitude for Florida head coach Mike Holloway and the entire Gators staff for helping her preparation for this global final, along with how meaningful it is to be one of nine Florida athletes past and present on the American roster. Hall examines the heptathlon field competing in Eugene and her potential to become only the fourth U.S. female athlete to secure a World Championships medal, joining Sheila Burrell, Jane Frederick and Jackie Joyner-Kersee. She also looks forward to the Bowerman Award ceremony in December and being finalists with Abby Steiner of Kentucky and Camryn Rogers of Cal, in addition to how significant it is for her to have the event held in her home state of Colorado.
